The Chaos Block-Walnut Border

$675.00

The Chaos Block-Walnut Border

19.5" x 20" End-Grain Mosaic Butcher Block with Brass Feet & Juice Groove

The Chaos Block is a large-format, end-grain butcher block designed for serious use.

Measuring 19.5" × 20" and a full 2.25" thick, it has substantial weight and stability on the counter. Each board is built through a multi-stage process of cutting, rotating, and reassembling solid hardwood into a one-of-a-kind mosaic pattern. No two are ever the same.

This limited edition board features a walnut border.

Creating the Chaos pattern requires hours of careful milling, layout, glue-up, and finishing — a deliberate process that cannot be rushed.

End-grain construction allows knife edges to slip between wood fibers rather than cut across them — helping preserve both your blades and the board over time.

A routed juice groove captures liquids during carving and prep, keeping your workspace cleaner. Recessed side handholds make the board easier to lift and reposition despite its weight. Solid brass feet elevate the board for airflow and added stability.

Built with careful attention to detail and designed for decades of daily use — a piece made to stand apart from an ordinary cutting board.

Produced in small batches with limited availability.

About This Board

This Limited Edition cutting board is a one-of-a-kind piece handcrafted in our shop and ready to ship. The photos shown are of the exact board you will receive.

Each board in this collection is made individually, often featuring unique grain patterns, combinations of hardwoods, or special design details that aren’t part of our Made to Order lineup. These boards are sold as-is with no customization.

Our Finishing Process

Every Lopez Woodworks cutting board is hand-finished with pure tung oil — not mineral oil.

Tung oil is a drying oil that cures within the wood, creating a durable, water-resistant finish. Mineral oil can soak into the wood but does not harden, which is why it requires more frequent reapplication.

We choose tung oil because it provides greater durability, a richer feel, and a finish more consistent with fine furniture. It takes more time to apply and cure, but the result is a surface built for long-term use.

After the tung oil finish has fully cured, we apply a protective topcoat of Lopez Woodworks Wood Wax — a blend of walnut oil, carnauba wax, and beeswax.

Each board includes RMP Finishes Cutting Board Oil for routine maintenance, along with Lopez Woodworks Wood Wax for added protection.

All finishes used are food-safe.

Shipping

Limited Edition boards ship within 1–2 business days. Since these pieces are already built, there is no production lead time. All boards are carefully packaged and include cutting board oil, wood wax, and care instructions.
